Osun Police Issue Fire Safety Alert Amid Rising Incidents

Osun State Police Command has issued fire safety alert to residents against avoidable fire outbreaks, particularly during the dry season.

The warning is coming amid reports of increasing fire incidents across the state.

This warning was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Thursday in Osogbo.

The Command urged members of the public to switch off electrical equipment and appliances when not in use and to desist from burning bushes or refuse around residential areas.

“The members of public are hereby advised to switch off electrical equipments/appliances when not in use and to do away with burning of bush/refuse around residential area,” the police said.

The command also urged residents to “handle flammable items such as gas cylinders, candles and premium motor spirit, popularly known as petrol, with care and to keep them away from heat sources or open flames to prevent fire outbreaks.”

The statement encouraged households and offices to procure fire extinguishers where possible, noting that early response could help prevent loss of lives and property in emergency situations.

Reassuring residents, the police stated that the command remained committed to the protection of lives and property as its primary responsibility.

“Use the filling numbers to contact the police control room on 08039537995 or 08123823981, or the Federal Fire Service on 08122695959 and 09035818584, in the event of a fire outbreak,” the statement concluded.
