Court grants bail to FMR AGF Malami, son, wife over N8.7bn fraud

News Update

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted the former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, his wife, Asabe Bashir and son, Abdulaziz Malami, bail in the sum of N500million and two sureties each in the ongoing fraud trial.

As part of the bail conditions, Justice Nwite ruled that the sureties must be property owners in Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa.

The Judge ordered that the defendants are to deposit their travel documents with the registrar of the court, adding that they are not to travel out of the country without the court’s permission.

The surety and the defendants are to deposit two copies of their passport photographs

Justice Nwite warns lawyers and litigants not to approach him in this matter, stressing that any attempt to try his will would be dealt with.

He advised that the best parties can do is get good lawyers to present and defend their cases.

Voice Air Media News previously reported that the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, his son, Abdulaziz Malami, and an associate, Bashir Asabe, have pleaded not guilty to all sixteen counts of alleged financial crimes brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
