Defection wave hits Rivers as four federal lawmakers join APC

News Update

Four members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), deepening the ongoing political realignment in the state.

The lawmakers’ switch comes barely a week after the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, joined the ruling party, a move that has continued to redraw the state’s political map.

Those who crossed to the APC are Manuchim Umezuruike, representing Port Harcourt I Federal Constituency; Boniface Emerengwa of Ikwerre/Emuoha Federal Constituency; Awake-Inombek Abiante, who represents Andoni/Opobo Federal Constituency; and Boma Goodhead of Asari-Toru Federal Constituency.

The latest development underscores a growing shift among key political actors in Rivers State, following recent changes at the state level that appear to be cascading into the National Assembly.
