An evening church crusade in Agboda community, Mararaba Udege, in Nasarawa Local Government Area, was abruptly halted on Monday after unidentified armed men attacked the area, leaving one participant injured.
The organiser of the programme, Dr Daniel Ukpo, told newsmen that the incident occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. as worshippers gathered.
He stated that panic erupted when news spread that armed men had attacked a nearby community.
“A young man riding a motorcycle was ambushed and inflicted with a machete cut, and his bike was taken.

“Once participants heard about the attack, people started running in different directions,” Ukpo said.
He added that the crusade was immediately suspended due to rising tension.
Ukpo described the attack as part of a troubling pattern of insecurity in the Mararaba Udege axis, noting that residents in nearby communities have repeatedly raised concerns about assaults, farm destruction, and the absence of adequate security.
“People are being attacked on the roads and even on their farms. Many of these cases never get reported.

“The security presence here is very weak,” he said, urging both state and federal authorities to intervene.
He added that religious activities in the area have previously been disrupted by suspected armed herders, leaving residents feeling “defenseless and abandoned.”
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued any official response to the incident.
