2027: APC forum moves for party consensus governorship candidate

News Update

A group known as the Bauchi State All Progressive Congress, APC, Credibility Forum has begun strategic consultations aimed at producing a consensus and widely acceptable governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This was disclosed by the Acting Chairman of the Forum, Dan’Umma Bello, after an emergency meeting of key stakeholders held in Bauchi.

Bello said the Forum considered it important to bring together major political actors within the party to avoid internal divisions that weakened the APC during previous election cycles.

He noted that while the party already has five strong aspirants, the priority this time is unity, coordination and presenting a candidate that reflects the collective interest of members.

“Our focus is not just about who wants to run. It is about who can win, who can unite the party and who can govern well,” he said. “Bauchi is naturally an APC state. What we need is sincerity of purpose to reclaim the governorship through the ballot.”

He confirmed that all five governorship hopefuls were represented at the meeting and that their representatives expressed readiness to work together under a single front.

Those represented included the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; Senator Shehu Buba Umar; former Governor M. A. Abubakar (SAN); Alhaji Bala Hadis; Alhaji Muhammadu Ṣadé; Hon. Gazali Abubakar Wunti, and others.

According to Bello, members of the Forum and the aspirants’ representatives agreed to prioritize cohesion, strategic planning and issue-based engagement moving forward.

He added that the Forum has so far recorded strong commitment from various stakeholders who share the vision of securing purposeful leadership for the state under the APC.
