Staff and students of Kogi State Polytechnic have been thrown into mourning after the death of a lecturer in the institution’s Department of Public Administration, Anslem Ojodomo, who collapsed while teaching.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Rector, Prof. Salihu Avidime, and signed by the Acting Coordinator of the Directorate of Public Relations, John Onimisi.
The rector expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a personal shock.
Avidime recalled that he had met with the late lecturer only hours before the incident, noting that they had exchanged pleasantries and appeared in good spirits.
He described Ojodomo as a dedicated academic who demonstrated humility, professionalism, and a strong commitment to excellence throughout his career.
“The Polytechnic community is mourning the loss of a promising academic and dependable colleague, who embodied scholarship, service, and character,” the rector said, adding that Ojodomo’s contributions as Deputy Dean, Students’ Services, and lecturer left a lasting impact.
The development comes barely a month after the institution lost another lecturer, Dr Barnabas Akuba, shortly after completing his PhD programme.
Eyewitness accounts from students indicated that Ojodomo collapsed while addressing them during a lecture and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
His sudden death has heightened concern within the academic community, with staff and students expressing anxiety over the loss of two lecturers within a short period.
Ojodomo, who joined the polytechnic in 2021, was described as a committed educator who held Master’s degrees from Prince Abubakar Audu University and had recently defended his PhD proposal.
He also served on several committees within the institution and was regarded as an inspiring figure among colleagues and students.
