Amidst public backlash, FG releases fresh presidential pardon list, several names missing

News Update

President Bola Tinubu has signed the official instruments of clemency and pardons, granting release to selected convicts across the country.

A State House statement released on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the President rejected high-profile inmates such as Maryam Sanda, who was sentenced to death for killing her husband.

The statement recalled that the President had directed a further review of the initial list submitted for consideration, leading to the removal of convicts involved in serious crimes such as murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and fraud.
