Abdullahi Bello, Gombe commissioner for internal security and home affairs, has died in an auto crash.
Bello died on Friday along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road while returning from Maiduguri, Borno state, where he had attended the north-east regional consultation on the development of a national disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) framework.
Ismaila Misilli, director-general of press affairs at the Gombe government house, announced Bello’s passing in a statement on Friday night.
Misilli said the commissioner died alongside Adamu Husaini, his police orderly, while his driver sustained injuries and is receiving treatment.
He added that Inuwa Yahaya, governor of Gombe, described Bello’s passing as heartbreaking, saying he was a disciplined, dedicated public servant who “brought his wealth of military experience, leadership and patriotism into the service” of the state.
“Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd) will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage and selfless service,” the statement reads.

The governor said Bello executed his duties with “unmatched diligence and a deep sense of responsibility”, adding that his demise is a “monumental loss” to the state and country.
