A hunting expedition turned tragic in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State after a hunter allegedly shot and killed a woman he mistook for a monkey.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), identifying the suspect as Otu Goodness Kanang.
He reportedly fired at what he believed to be a monkey perched on a tree in Basam Osokom community.
According to Makama, the hunter was horrified to hear a human cry after taking the shot.
He later discovered that the victim was a woman identified simply as Victoria, whose other names had not been confirmed at the time of the report.
Police detectives, assisted by local youths, were said to have visited the scene and recovered the victim’s body to the residence of a community chief in Bansam for further investigation.
Makama added that the suspect had been apprehended and taken into custody while police continue their investigation into the incident.
The police were quoted as saying that normalcy has been restored to the area and that the situation remains under control.
