30-year-old kills man, hides body in fridge

News Update

THE Anambra State Police Command has uncovered the decomposed remains of a 25-year-old man allegedly murdered by one Leberechi, 30, in the Okpoko area of Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Residents of the community had attempted to lynch the suspect before operatives attached to the Okpoko Police Division intervened and rescued him.

The victim, whose identity had yet to be established as of press time, was reportedly dismembered, with the body parts concealed in a refrigerator when policemen stormed the suspect’s residence.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said Leberechi was found unconscious when operatives arrested him.

“He was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention and is currently under armed guard to prevent escape.

“The operatives visited the scene of the murder and discovered the decomposed body parts of the victim hidden inside a refrigerator.

“The remains were subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” the PPRO said.

Ikenga added that the state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for detailed investigation to ensure justice is served.
