JUST IN: Police confirms death of Niger govt project consultant in Minna lodge

A 69-year-old businessman and project consultant to the Niger State government, Gregory Ossai Ozegbe, has allegedly died at one of the state’s lodges in Minna, the state capital.

Reports say the deceased became unconscious last Saturday at about 9:30 pm and was rushed to the IBB Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Confirming the development, the Police through the public relations officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun said the Command was informed of the incident on August 2, 2025 at around 9:30pm through a report from the CSO Government House, Minna.

He explained in a statement, that operatives from the GRA Division of the Command responded shortly after they received the information,

The cause of his death is yet to be confirmed but his body has been taken to the morgue for an autopsy, he noted.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago in his reaction to the incident, in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, expressed shock and sadness over Ozegbe’s demise, describing him as an integral part of the state’s development agenda.

The statement explained that Mr Ozegbe was a key figure in Niger State, having worked on various projects, including the ongoing construction of the Minna Hilton 5-star hotel project, for which he served as the project consultant to the Niger State Government..

“The late Gregory Ossai was a well-known figure, having been working in Niger State since the era of the late Engr.Abdullahi  Abdulkadir Kure, ” he noted.

Bago commiserated with the deceased’s family and urged them to take heart, while praying that God would grant the deceased eternal rest.

According to him, “The late consultant was an integral part of the New Niger agenda, where his expertise has been playing out, especially in the ongoing construction of the Minna 5 star hotel”

“The late Ossai lived a fulfilled life and will continue to be remembered for his good works and prayed that God, in his ultimate mercies, continue to rest his soul”
