Three dead, homes burnt in Zamfara bandit raid — Report

Gunmen have killed three people and set several houses and silos ablaze in Dangoro village, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

He said the attack occurred on March 28, 2026, at about 10:30pm, when a group of armed bandits wielding AK-47 rifles attacked Dangoro village via Nahuche District.

According to Abubakar, the assailants invaded the community, shooting sporadically and setting houses and silos on fire.

“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of police operatives and vigilante members swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene.

“The team engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, successfully repelling the attack and forcing the criminals to flee into the bush with possible gunshot injuries.

“Regrettably, three people lost their lives during the incident, including a member of the Community Protection Guard.

“Additionally, five people sustained gunshot injuries, while four others suffered varying degrees of burn injuries.

“The bandits also burnt several houses, silos containing food grains, and livestock, including goats,” he said.

Abubakar further explained that all injured victims had been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

He added that the command has intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.

Abubakar also said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad, assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
