Man lands in trouble for attempted suicide at church premises

News Update

THE Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 29-year-old man, Victor Kalu, after he allegedly attempted to take his own life within the premises of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM, in Ibafo.

It was gathered that Kalu was spotted trying to hang himself from an electric pole inside the church compound late Friday at about 10:45 p.m..

The quick intervention of the church’s Chief Security Officer prevented the act, and the suspect was later handed over to the police around 10:10 a.m. on Saturday.

Police investigations revealed that Kalu, who lives at Plot 7, Oluwa Sesan Street, Ejigbo Road, Ikotun, Lagos, confessed that he was overwhelmed by severe financial challenges stemming from a loan he obtained from an online lender.

“He explained that after receiving constant threats from the loan company and seeing no way to repay the debt, he decided to end his life by hanging himself at the church premises,” a police source disclosed.

Detectives from the Ibafo Division visited the scene, obtained statements from both the complainant and the suspect, and documented the incident with photographs.

The police confirmed that Kalu is currently in custody while an investigation into the case continues.
