The Police have declared that it will monitor compliance and enforce the 24-hour curfew declared by Adamawa government on Lamurde local government area of the state over violent attacks and breach of peace within some communities in the area.
Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesperson for the Adamawa Police Command said this in a statement released on Saturday morning.
The police, in the statement, advised embers of the public particularly those within Lamurde LGA, to respectfully comply with curfew and stay indoors in order to prevent further break down of law and order.
According to the statement, the state commissioner of police, CP Dankombo Morris, has deployed more operational assets of the command to the affected areas to monitor compliance and enforce the curfew using all legal means.
“The command in collaboration with sister security agencies while respecting the rights of the citizens equally enjoy them to avoid all forms of action capable of threatening the security in the area.
“However, the Command will not in any where allow hoodlums and misguided elements to operate unchallenged, despite security agents operates in such a way of not using force to create scenario that will lead to lost of live while enforcing the curfew,” the statement indicated.
Adamawa governor, Ahmadu Fintiri had late Friday imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect over violent attacks and breach of peace in some communities within the area.
Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, disclosed a statement issued in Yola that the government viewed the disturbances as unacceptable and has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly.
“The curfew is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice,” he said.
He warned that anyone or group of people found contravening the directive would be arrested and dealt with according to the law.
” Residents are urged to abide by the curfew and provide useful information to security agencies to ensure peaceful coexistence.
” Government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order, ” he said.
According to him, government is committed to protecting lives and property as well as ensuring the safety of all citizens.
