THE Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has issued a stern warning to individuals or groups planning to engage in cult-related activities under the guise of marking the symbolic date known as “7/7”.
In the same vein, the Osun State Command of Amotekun has issued a strong and unequivocal warning to individuals or groups planning to engage in secret cult-related activities under the guise of symbolic date celebrations.
The State Commander of the Corps in Ondo State, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who issued the warning in Akure, said intelligence reports at the disposal of the agency indicated that some cult groups are plotting to commemorate Monday, July 7, with unlawful gatherings, secret meetings, and violent initiations.
Describing such plans as a serious threat to public safety and the rule of law, Adeleye warned that anyone caught engaging in cult-related activities would be dealt with decisively and made to face the full weight of the law.
“Our intelligence has revealed that certain cult groups are mobilising to mark the so-called ‘7/7’ with activities that are not only unlawful but capable of throwing communities into chaos.
“We will not tolerate it,” the Amotekun boss said.
He noted that the Corps, working in synergy with other security agencies in the state, has put in place proactive measures to foil any such gatherings, and assured residents of the state of adequate security.
Adeleye called on parents and guardians to caution their children and wards, urging traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious institutions to join hands in discouraging youths from engaging in cultism and other criminal tendencies.
“We are committed to keeping Ondo State safe, and we are counting on the cooperation of the public. If you see something, say something,” He added.
He added that the Amotekun Corps has, in recent times, intensified its crackdown on cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other crimes in the state, earning its accolades for restoring a measure of peace across several communities.
According to intelligence gathered by the Corps in Osun State, “There are credible indications that certain cult groups may be planning to mark Monday, July 7, popularly referred to as “7/7”, with unlawful gatherings, nocturnal meetings, or violent initiations, all of which pose serious threats to public safety and the rule of law.”
In a statement issued from the Amotekun Command Headquarters in Osogbo, and signed by the Corps Commander, Chief Dr. Adekunle Omoyele, the organisation made it clear that it would not tolerate any form of cultism, secret society meetings, or acts capable of disturbing the peace of the state.
“We have received reliable intelligence pointing to possible activities by cult groups seeking to take advantage of the 7/7 date for their nefarious operations. Let it be known that Osun State remains a land of peace and law and order.
” Anyone found violating the laws of the state in the name of cultism or any secret gathering will face immediate arrest and prosecution,” Omoyele warned.
He further stressed that the government of Osun State, through its robust security apparatus, has empowered the Amotekun Corps to deal decisively with any threats to the peace and security of the citizenry.
Omoyele reiterated the Corps’ zero-tolerance policy towards cultism, stating that such vices have no place in a progressive and law-abiding society.
Omoyele urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious movements or gatherings within their communities.
A resident of Osogbo, Mrs. Aderonke Akinwale, applauded the warning. “We don’t want any bloodshed or unrest in our communities. I thank Amotekun for always being ahead and working hard to protect us,” she said.
