Sex Worker Dies While Fighting Customer Over N15,000

News Update

Tragedy struck in the Cathedral area of Akure in the early hours of Sunday when a violent dispute between a sex worker and a customer escalated, ultimately leading to the woman’s death.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the incident.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the incident occurred at a brothel under the jurisdiction of ‘A’ Division around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Police investigations revealed that a disagreement broke out when the sex worker reportedly became physically unwell during an encounter and was unable to continue with the services for which she had been paid.

The customer, enraged by the interruption, allegedly demanded a refund of N15,000.

When brothel staff and bystanders attempted to calm the situation, the man reportedly stormed out, only to return shortly after with a group of accomplices to forcefully retrieve the money. Their actions led to a violent confrontation at the premises.

Sensing the potential for serious harm, the brothel manager placed a distress call to the police. A patrol team responded promptly, arriving at the scene to find the suspects attempting to assault staff and reclaim the money. Simultaneously, the victim’s condition had worsened.

Officers acted swiftly, securing the arrest of three suspects while arrangements were made to rush the unconscious woman to a hospital in the Lafe area.

Sadly, she was later declared dead on arrival at the Police Hospital in Akure. Her remains have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue pending autopsy.

While three individuals have been taken into custody, police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend two more suspects who are currently at large. The identities of those involved are being withheld for the time being to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet probe. The Ondo State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be pursued to its full extent.

Police urge members of the public to remain calm and to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation.
