THE governments of Kwara, Oyo, and Kano States have declared public holidays to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH.

In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced that Thursday, June 26, 2025, will be observed as a work-free day across the state.

The decision, made in honour of the new Islamic calendar year, was shared in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson.

AbdulRazaq congratulated Muslims in the state and urged them to reflect on the values of sacrifice, peace, and unity associated with the Hijrah.

He also prayed for a year filled with blessings, progress, and security.

Similarly, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf declared Thursday a public holiday.

The announcement, issued by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, encouraged Muslims to reflect on the past year and seek spiritual renewal.

Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to uplifting the lives of citizens and promoting peaceful coexistence throughout the state.

In Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde declared Friday, June 27, 2025, as a public holiday for the same reason.

The announcement was made through a circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo.

According to the state government, the holiday will allow Muslim faithful to honour the spiritual significance of the Hijrah and pray for the prosperity of Oyo and the nation.
