Why I can’t raise my kids in Nigeria – Nigerian rapper

Popular Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has opened up about his concerns regarding raising children in Nigeria, citing insecurity and economic instability as key factors behind his hesitation.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Dear Ife Series podcast hosted by Ifedayo Agoro, Falz was asked whether he would consider raising his children in Nigeria if he eventually becomes a parent.

The rapper responded thoughtfully, saying, “Ah! That’s a deep question. I didn’t expect to hear this question. I haven’t really thought that far, let me not lie.”

He went on to explain that Nigeria’s current security situation, threats he faces due to his activism, and general public apathy make it difficult for him to commit to raising a family in the country.

“It’s something I cannot outrightly say ‘yes’ to. And it’s so sad,” he said. “But I can’t also outrightly say ‘no’ because I’m pro-Nigerian and I really believe that we can actually get it right. But I don’t know… let’s see.”
