The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has rescued five persons from the den of kidnappers in the forests in the state.
According to the corps, the victims were rescued without any payment of ransom.
Speaking on the development on Wednesday, the Commander of Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, said the victims’ family members had been seeking N150 million ransom for their release but the corps ensured that the money was not paid before his men rescued them in the bush.
The Amotekun commander explained that four of the victims were kidnapped along the Ore-Ijebu Ode expressway in Odigbo Local Government of the state, while one other victim was rescued around Ifon forest five days after he was abducted at his residence in Upemen community along Owo-Ikare road in Owo Local Government.
The Amotekun boss said, “Four (victims) were kidnapped at Nirowi area along Lagos Ore Road on the 10th of May. The good thing about it is that, within a few minutes of this occurrence, they contacted our distress call line and we mobilised men to enter the forests. They were kidnapped by four armed men and led into the bush.
“But I want to tell you today that by the grace of God, Amotekun Corp has been able to recover the four of them present here today without payment of ransom and no loss of lives.
“In the same vein, one Emmanuel that was kidnapped along Ikare-Owo Road on the 6th of May was also released without payment of any ransom. Despite the fact that the attackers inflicted several martial arts wounds on him, we acted on credible intelligence and were able to release this victim unarmed. He has been receiving medical attention from our medical facility.”
While urging residents of the state to always provide timely security information to the corps, Adeleye disclosed that Amotekun rangers had been deployed into all the major forests and locations in the state to curb criminality.
He disclosed that over 12 armed robbery and kidnapping cases had been foiled by officials of the rangers in the state, particularly the Ondo-Ogun state boundary.
Narrating his ordeal at the den of the abductors, one of the rescued victims, Ayo Adeyeye, stated that the bandits threatened to terminate his life and others if the ransom were not paid.
“I was returning home when they stopped us, but my brother ran away before I could stop the motorcycle.
“They dragged me with them and we trekked all through the night till the following morning. My brother, who escaped, told our people who combed all the forest with no positive results and they had to involve Amotekun men who rescued me with three other victims,” he said.
