Former Senators Rufai Sani Hanga and Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, along with Senator Masud El-Jibrin Doguwa, have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State.

The trio joined the ruling party alongside 136,038 other defectors during the unveiling of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign groups in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections.

Other prominent figures who defected include Kano State Deputy Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Ali Datti Yako, and some members of the NDC state executive committee.

Former Chairman of Ungogo Local Government, Badaru Umar, also moved to the APC with members of the political structure of former Kano APC governorship candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.

Former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Isyaku Ali Danja, joined the APC with his supporters.

Also on the defection list are former PDP deputy governorship candidate, Yusuf Bello Danbatta, and his supporters, as well as former Special Adviser to the President, Senator Baraka Sani.

Chairman of the NNPP “Book Faction”, Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya, and former NNPP senatorial candidate, Abdulmajid Dauda Dandawaki, also defected to the APC with their supporters. NDC State House of Assembly candidate, Kabiru, also joined the ruling party.

The APC has witnessed a wave of defections in recent months, particularly from the NNPP, following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s movement to the ruling party.

The governor’s defection has since triggered the movement of lawmakers and political appointees into the APC.

The latest set of defectors comprises politicians who have served at the Senate, House of Representatives, state legislature, local government level, and across various political parties.
