Ekiti State University Emerges As Nigeria’s Premier State Varsity

In a remarkable achievement, Ekiti State University (EKSU) has been recognized as the number one state university in Nigeria and has secured the 12th position among over 270 universities nationwide, according to a comprehensive ranking list published by Times Higher Education for 2025, as reported by #TheCableIndex. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the unwavering commitment to academic excellence demonstrated under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

The Ekiti State Government’s dedication to enhancing the educational landscape is further underscored by a significant increase in funding for EKSU’s subvention, rising from N260 million to N410 million. This substantial investment reflects the government’s belief in the transformative power of education and its critical role in fostering sustainable development.

Under the visionary guidance of the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, an esteemed scholar of Educational Management, EKSU has undergone a remarkable transformation. He has successfully expanded the university’s range of accredited programs from a limited selection to a robust offering of 91 fully accredited courses. Noteworthy new programs include Medical Laboratory Science, Food Science Technology, Pharmacy, Peace and Conflict Resolution, Mass Communication, Intelligence and Security Studies, International Relations, and Public Administration. This diversification not only enhances the university’s curriculum but also equips students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s dynamic job market.

Moreover, Professor Ayodele has fostered a collaborative and harmonious relationship with staff unions, which has been instrumental in achieving this impressive ranking. The emphasis on dialogue and partnership had created a conducive working environment, ultimately benefitting both students and faculty.

Infrastructure at EKSU has witnessed significant improvements, with the construction of notable buildings that enhance the campus environment and support academic endeavors. This physical transformation complements the university’s academic advancements, positioning EKSU as a leading institution in Nigeria.

As an alumnus of Ekiti State University, I take immense pride in these achievements. My time at EKSU provided me with invaluable knowledge and experiences that have shaped my academic and professional journey. It is heartening to see the university gaining recognition for its quality education and progressive initiatives.

Kudos to the exemplary leadership of Professor Ayodele, whose clear vision and strategic direction have propelled EKSU to new heights.
