Otti Champions Intelligence-Driven War Against Drug Abuse in Abia

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called for a comprehensive, intelligence-driven strategy to tackle drug abuse and its related issues. He made this statement on Thursday while hosting the new State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nnadi Wilfred, at his residence in Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area.

Governor Otti highlighted the growing complexity of the drug problem and its role in fueling criminal activities across the country. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the government and security agencies to combat crime and drug-related offenses, assuring that his administration would provide all necessary support to address these challenges.

“The connection between crime and drug abuse is undeniable,” Otti remarked. “In many cases, individuals involved in criminal activities often start with drugs. Whether you are in the Army, Navy, or DSS, we are all working towards the same goal. The government is ready to support you in any way needed to rid our state of criminal elements.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to creating a secure environment, the governor urged the NDLEA team to work closely with his Senior Special Assistant on Homeland Security to identify and address potential crime hotspots in the state.

Governor Otti also emphasized the role of education in preventing drug abuse and criminal behavior. He expressed optimism that his administration’s free and compulsory education policy for primary and secondary school children would significantly reduce the vulnerability of young people to these vices.

In his remarks, NDLEA State Commander Nnadi Wilfred, who assumed office in December, expressed appreciation for the governor’s support and involvement in raising awareness about drug abuse. He also commended the governor’s wife, Priscilla Otti, for her efforts in drug awareness campaigns and the rehabilitation of drug users. The visit, he noted, was part of his familiarization tour in the state.
