‘To Promote Culture, Economic Value’ – Governor Adeleke Assures Continuity Of Adire Osun Festival

Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Adire Osun as an annual event to support cultural and economic value.

On Monday, the governor made this announcement during the maiden edition of Adire Osun Festival World Media Conference & Logo Unveil in Osogbo.

While speaking, governor Adeleke reaffirmed the origin of Adire which started in Osogbo the Osun State Capital many years ago and by extension in Ede Osun State, noting that all other Adire productions were copied from Osun State.

However, Adeleke also pledged government support to revitalise the ‘tie and dye’ (Adire) productions as a great drive towards the improvement of the state economy by propagating the uniqueness of Adire to the world community.

Voice Air Media News Online recalled that Senator Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun, has directed all public servants in the state to wear Adire fabrics to work every Wednesday to promote Yoruba rich culture and tradition.

Adire as a cultural heritage of Osun state plays a crucial role in the lives and history of the state by influencing the values, belief and sense of belongings of the people of Osun. It is a source of inspiration and creativity.

During their separate remarks, Special Adviser to the governor on Creative Economy, Events and Entertainment, Hon. Tunde Laface; SA on Tourism, Hon. Tope Anjorin; and SSA on Culture, Hon. Iyiola Shefiu explained the need to embrace new innovations in taking Adire productions into the next level in Osun.

“Adire Osun Street Carnival is the highlight of the Adire Festival and it will encompass the different zones and local government areas of Osun state.

“Today we historically celebrate the origin of Aro and the advent of adire in Osun State and Osogbo in particular with Ile Aka being a prominent community for the production of Adire thou it is worthy to note that Aro and adire also has a place in Ede at Ile Akoda and other prominent Cities in Osun State with Elu leaves being used traditionally as a formidable dying material.

“Today the trend has changed with modern technological advancement with the use of colourful imported dyes from Germany and China. It is a known fact that some Southwest states have been propagating the adire Culture for a while now But like they say it is never too late
Hence this giant stride was taken by the Governor Adeleke led Administration
Adire Osun Festival is a very futuristic youth engaging and empowering project.”
