THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 20 chairmanship seats in the local government election in Ogun state.
Babatunde Osibodu, chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), announced the results on Sunday in Abeokuta.
Osibodu said the APC also won all 236 councillorship seats.
According to the umpire, 613,156 votes across 236 council wards in the 20 LGAs, were cast.
Speaking after voting on Saturday, Dapo Abiodun, Ogun governor, said the turnout demonstrated the people’s faith in democracy.
Abiodun also commended OGSIEC for the process, adding that reports and feedback from the field had been encouraging.
“The feedback I have gotten has been very encouraging,” he said.
“In any election, we can’t rule out logistic hiccups, but, by and large, electoral materials have reached all the nooks and crannies of the state and voting has commenced in earnest.
“I want to commend our law enforcement agencies. I have noticed the presence of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Security (DSS) and Amotekun Corps.”
The governor lauded security agencies for their collaborative efforts in ensuring a peaceful election.
Ahead of the polls, Abiodun boasted that the APC will win the LGA election.
The governor said “intimidating projects” executed by his government have “silenced” opposition political parties in the state.
