Following the flood that ravaged Ondo town at the weekend, Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has disclosed that long-term solutions will be deployed to prevent future occurrences.
While assuring to rehabilitate flood-prone areas, the governor stated that support will be for victims of the flood in Ondo town.
Flash flood caused by over eight hours heavy downpour had on Friday wrecked havoc in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of the state, with houses, shops, and vehicles submerged.
Aiyedatiwa, who visited and inspected the affected areas on Sunday night, expressed concern over the impact of the flood, particularly on vulnerable communities.
“We are deeply concerned about the challenges these floods have caused, and we are already working to ensure that affected areas receive immediate relief and long-term solutions.”
The governor, however, assured the affected communities that his administration would prioritise the rehabilitation of flood-prone areas and intensify efforts to complete ongoing water channelisation projects.
He urged residents to avoid practices that contribute to flooding, such as blocking drainage channels with waste.
