President Bola Tinubu has introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at a price of N230 per litre.
This initiative is to help lower fuel expenses and offer Nigerians a cost-effective alternative to petrol and diesel.
This move also aims to provide a more affordable and eco-friendly fuel option compared to petrol, which is currently sold at over N900 per litre.
Under this initiative, President Tinubu has authorized the distribution of one million free CNG conversion kits to commercial vehicles that transport people, goods, and food.
The distribution will occur over the next 18 months and include free installation of these kits.
The first phase will see 10,000 kits distributed this week through national transport associations like NURTW, Moove, UBER, and the Kaduna State Transport Authority (KSTA).
This effort aims to help commercial drivers switch to CNG, reducing their fuel expenses and benefiting the public.
The government plans to distribute all one million conversion kits by the end of 2025, equipping Nigeria’s commercial transport sector to transition fully to CNG and lessen reliance on expensive petrol and diesel.
