“There’s no protest in Lagos” – says Tinubu’s daughter

Voice Air Media, News Update

Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, President Bola Tinubu’s daughter and Iyaloja General of Lagos, has told Lagos sellers that there would be no such thing as protests in the state.

A clip shared on X on Sunday shows Tinubu-Ojo telling sellers in a Lagos marketplace to prevent their children from partaking in the upcoming August nationwide protests.

“Let us go and tell our children and families that there’s no such thing as protests. They are simply plans to ruin the country,” Tinubu-Ojo said in Yorùbá.

“Just look back at the protests that happened in the past. Look at how the protesters went to burn down infrastructure the government built. You can see that this is all infighting and we are the ones taking ourselves backwards.

“Don’t allow your children bear the consequences of these demonstrations that some political parties are funding. Please, let’s talk to ourselves and our children. There is nothing like protest in Lagos State because the government of Lagos is making us proud.

“Those at the federal government just got there. Before you can say that one government has done badly, let them spend three years.”

This is not the first time Tinubu-Ojo has called for Nigerians to remain quiet in the face of harsh economic realities.

Tinubu-Ojo told journalists in February that there was global economic downturn and Nigerians had to be patient with her father’s leadership.

She was not the only child of the president who asked Nigerians to be patient five months ago.

Seyi Tinubu, Tinubu’s son, shared some of the president’s words in an Instagram post asking Nigerians to endure economic hardship in February.

The president’s son made the Instagram post at a time pockets of protests appeared in Oyo, Kano, Ogun, Sokoto and Niger states. Petrol prices had soared as high as N590 per litre and the labour union was pressuring the federal government to prevent another imminent fuel price hike.

Many young Nigerians are set to take to the streets from August 1 for a protest the government has tried to prevent for weeks.

The protesters are calling for immediate remedies to inflation and high cost of living nationwide among other demands.
