Cholera: Osun Health Board, WHO, Red Cross Hit Streets, Markets; Sensitize Residents

On Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, the Osun State Ministry of Health, State Primary Health Care Board in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), National Orientation Agency and Red Cross Society took Cholera sensitisation and enlightenment walk to Olorunda Local Government Area, Osogbo, the State capital on campaign for the prevention of Cholera spread to Osun State.”

The team comprising of three groups with drums took off from Olorunda Local Government to Igbona market, Sabo and Olu-ode area.

The team leaders with drums backing it up sensitized the market men and women on how to prevent cholera from penetrating into Osun State,

Methods include; make water safe.
Safe food preparation.
Watching of hands regularly.
Practice environmental hygiene/Sweeping of your environment from time to time.
Stop indiscriminate refuse dumping.
Ensure proper disposal of waste and proper cleaning of sewage.
Do not defecate in the gutter or open space.
Always cover your food.
Women should wash their breast before breastfeeding their children and more.

They were told of the symptoms of Cholera, which includes; uncontrolled defecation of water and at the same time vomiting. In short, if you experience sudden Diarrhoea (water stool), visit a health center immediately.

“When you notice this symptoms, go straight to the state hospitals where you will be treated free of charge.”

Our Correspondent narrated that fliers on the prevention of Cholera and how to control family were freely given to the public in the all places visited.

The traders thanked the participants and the Osun State government for their proactive health initiative to create awareness in preventing the deadly disease.
