1. Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has revealed that the Senate is set to recall Senator Abdul Ningi from his three-month suspension. He disclosed this while answering questions from reporters on arrival from the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
2.Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, says the victory of Bassirou Diomaye Faye in Senegal has underscored the need for opposition parties in Nigeria to unite and remove President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Atiku who disclosed this in a tweet via his X account, also said Faye’s emergence as Senegalese President-Elect shows that democracy is the best form of government.
3. As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Easter, the Department of State Services, DSS, has released mobile numbers citizens should call to report cases of security breach. DSS, in a statement by Peter Afunanya, its Director of Strategic Communications, also urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to the peace and unity of Nigeria and work towards inclusiveness.
4. The Central Bank of Nigeria plans to closely monitor the recapitalisation of the Nigerian banking sector, alongside law enforcement agencies. The Director of the CBN’s Financial Policy and Regulation Department, Haruna Mustafa, disclosed this in a circular on Friday.
5. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has challenged Rivers State governor, Siminilayi Fubara, to test his popularity by conducting local government elections in the state. The Chairman of APC in Rivers State, Tony Okocha said this while addressing a press conference at the national secretariat of the party on Friday in Abuja.
6. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says 19 political parties will be participating in the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State. Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, said that the political parties have notified the Commission of their readiness to participate in the poll.
7. The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo, has called on leaders and Nigerians to emulate Christ’s sacrifice as Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Badejo made the call in his Good Friday message in Ibadan.
8. Nollywood actor and former spokesperson of the Labour Party presidential campaign council, Kenneth Okonkwo has said the crisis rocking the party would not affect Peter Obi if he decides to run for the presidency again in 2027.Speaking in a recent interview with Arise TV, Okonkwo said Peter Obi represents “a new Nigeria” regardless of any political platform he is contesting on.
9. The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of police personnel and operational assets to areas of likely security threats nationwide ahead of the 2024 Easter celebration. A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja said the Inspector-General of Police also ordered round-the-clock security and protection of public spaces across the country, before, during and after the Easter celebration.
10. The Nigerian Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has revealed plans to place a bounty on those declared wanted over the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama community, Delta State. DHQ in a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Buba Edward said the military was fully committed to apprehending all individuals who have been declared wanted.
