Nigerian Senate suspends Ningi over budget padding claim

THE 10th Senate, on Tuesday, suspended Senator Abdul Ningi for three months over an allegation of N3.7 trillion padded into the 2024 budget.

Ningi is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Population and represents PDP, Bauchi Central.

It was gathered Sen. Ningi was suspended shortly after lawmakers debated a set of prayers contained in a motion moved by Ogun West Senator, Olamilekan Adeola, on the breach of his privilege following his claim on the 2024 Budget which has now gone viral.

The prayers sought punitive measures against Ningi for his action, amongst others, which included suspension from the Senate.

Ningi, who was reported to have made the claim during a BBC Hausa Service interview at the weekend, however, denied the reports on Monday, saying he was quoted out of context because he spoke in Hausa language.
