Hardship: Civil Servants To Work 3 Days a Week – Gov Sanwo-Olu Declares

The Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that civil servants from level 1-14 would begin to work three days a week as part of measures to ease the economic challenges on residents.

He spoke during a live media chat, ‘Sanwo Speaks’, to intimate residents on steps being taken to reduce the economic burden on Lagosians after President Bola Tinubu ended the petrol subsidy regime and unified the exchange rates in 2023.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu explained that the state government is making arrangements for civil servants from level 1 to 14 to only work from their various offices three days a week.

He added that those on levels 15 to 17 will report at their offices four times a week.

“From next week, we are working out a plan where civil servants from level 1 to 14 will come to the office maximum of three times in a week,” the governor said. “Not that all forms of government will be shut down. It will be calendarised and scheduled. Those on level 15 to 17 will miss work for one day.”

Sanwo-Olu added that teachers in public schools in the state will continue to work five days in a week due to the nature of academic activities.

The Lagos governor said his administration will provide additional transport support for teachers in public schools.

He announced a 25 percent reduction in state-owned transport services starting from this weekend while adding that his administration will discuss fare reduction with transport unions.

Sanwo-Olu said the state will identify caterers and “mama put” outlets in each LGA to feed 1,000 people at least once a day.

He added that his administration will open “Sunday markets” in at least 42 identified markets for residents to buy food items at a 25 percent discounted rate.
