[BREAKING] Brain drain: We have increased Nursing enrollment to 63,000 – Registrar, NMCN

The Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, Professor Abubakar Faruq, has disclosed that enrollment in Nursing in Nigeria institutions of learning has increased by almost 50 per cent.

 

He added the present administration’s commitment towards producing competent and professional nurses has seen enrollment increase from 38,000 to 63,000 in 2023.

 

Speaking at the maiden matriculation programme of Mercy Medical University, Iwo, Osun State, he charged the newly admitted students of the institution to patiently go through their training to use their acquired knowledge to serve humanity.

“The present administration’s bid towards ensuring continuous training and development of human capacity has helped to increase enrollment into the nursing profession from 38,000 to 63,000 in 2023 to meet the needs of Nigerians.

 

“Osun is one of the leading states with the highest number of accredited degree awarding institutions in Nursing with 7 of the 57 accredited departments across the country.

 

“I, therefore, urge you student to be patiently committed to achieving professionalism in five years to serve humanity”, he said.

 

Speaking earlier, the University’s acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Ajibade Lawal, said the 500 students matriculated resumed to their various departments with full accreditation from the National Universities Commission, NUC.

The departments to which students were admitted, according to him, include; MBBS, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Community Health and Alternative Medicine.
