Osun Council: OSSIEC Releases Timetable, Schedule Of Activities For Election

THE Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Akintunde Abioye, Esq., has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of the Local Government elections in Osun State.

According to the Chairman, the elections will hold on the 22nd of February, 2025.

In a statement issued by Omoyemi Badru,
Press Secretary to OSSIEC Chairman, said
this was a follow-up to the parley held by the Commission with IPAC and the media earlier in theweek.

Part of the statement read, “Further to the notice of election given earlier by the Commission, the notice of election and the timetable/schedule of activities for the elections will be formally published in the Nigerian Tribune edition of Monday 19th of February, 2024, as the conduct of primary elections by political parties (which is to be monitored by the Commission) will commence on the 22nd July – 6th August 2024.

“It is noteworthy that each registered political party is to indicate the dates, venues and time scheduled for their primaries to the Commission not later than 21 days before the appointed dates.

“Final date for submission of list of candidates by parties, according to the timetable, is slated between 30th September, 2024 – 5th October, 2024, while the final date for the publication of names of already screened and qualified candidates is slated between 11th – 15th November 2024.

“The OSSIEC Chairman during the parley has promised that the forth-coming local government elections will be a giant leap forward in the history of local government elections in Osun State, as he has assured stakeholders of a credible, free, fair, peaceful and transparent election process.

“The Commission also has a line-up of other activities connected with and/or incidental to the elections as scheduled in the timetable. The Chairman has also hinted about the guidelines and regulations for the elections which will be issued in due course.

“Fuller details of the schedule of activities/timetable for the elections will be in the Nigerian Tribune publication of 19th February, 2024. In addition, soft copies of the notice, timetable/schedule will also be circulated widely for public consumption.”
