THE Super Eagles of Nigeria may be forced to face South Africa on Wednesday in the ongoing AFCON competition without Napoli striker Victor Osimhen due to abdominal discomfort.
Sharing the update in a statement on Monday, the Super Eagles media officer, Babafemi Raji revealed that Osimhen is being monitored by the medical team.
According to Raji, the other players have travelled to Buoke, the city where the semi-final encounter will take place and if Osimhen is cleared today (Tuesday), he will join his teammates before 5 pm.
“We will fly from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10 pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Victor Osimhen will not join us on this trip as a result of abdominal discomfort.
“Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch, with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5 pm,” the statement reads.
Osimhen has played a pivotal role in the success of the Nigerian team and the probability of his absence could dampen the spirits of supporters.
The clash with the Bafana Bafana squad is scheduled for 6 pm on Wednesday, February 7.
