Ghana Football Association has sacked national team coach Chris Hughton with immediate effect following the country’s limp exit from the ongoing AFCON in Ivory Coast.
The technical team was also dissolved in the aftermath of the embarrassing exit as Ghana have failed to advance from the group stage in their past two AFCON tournaments.
The GFA statement, made public Hughton’s sack on its website also added it would re-strategize for the future of the national team.
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.”
“The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.
“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” the statement read.
The Black Stars did not win against Egypt, lost to Cape Verde and could not keep a two-goal lead against Mozambique as they were shown the exit door out of the tournament that has continued to throw up surprises.
Hughton first joined Ghana as technical director in February 2022 before taking the head coach role a year later.
