Singer Terry G Bids Adieu to Music Career

Nigerian music star, Gabriel Oche Amanyi, fondly known as Terry G, has retired from music.

The Apako master made the announcement on Saturday in a video message shared via Instagram.

Terry G explained that he chose to quit because his career was no longer a successful one.

He appreciated his fans for their support over the years, stressing that the decision might hurt them but it was for his best interest.

“A big thank you to my fans for staying with me all these years. I really appreciate you all. It’s been amazing years back-to-back. Thank you all for the love,” he said.

“But I’m about to make a big announcement. I know it’s going to hurt a lot of people but I’ve my personal reasons. I’m quitting music. I’m done. And I really appreciate you guys for showing me so much love,” he added.

VAM reports that this is coming days after Terry G complained of his fellow artistes not wanting to help him despite reaching out to them.

In a series of posts via Instagram, he had reminded his colleagues how he was there for them when they came to him for help.

“You will write to your fellow artiste, e no go respond. When everybody came to G, they received hits.

“We don’t have to die to be remembered and celebrated. We all contribute to the global music library of sounds. Just in case. I am back. Thank you for the wait,” he wrote in a combination of pidgin and English.

The singer ruled the airwaves in the early 2000s.

He is widely known for his eccentric dress-sense, controversial lyrics and awkward identity.

‘Free Madness’ is one of his most well-known songs.
