Gunmen have reportedly killed many residents during attacks on some communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi LGAs of Plateau state.
The attacks were said to have occurred on Saturday and snowballed to Sunday while residents were in a preparatory mood for the Christmas celebration.
The gunmen reportedly razed houses and looted properties in the communities, especially in Mushu village.
Reacting to the attacks, Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, directed security operatives to apprehend the assailants.
In a statement by Gyang Bere, the chief press secretary to the governor, Mutfwang condemned attacks while calling on residents to “remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security forces for immediate action”.
The Plateau governor commiserated with families of the victims and “urged them to find solace in God as the government diligently works to end the prolonged violence”.
“Highlighting the importance of collective collaboration among rural communities, the Governor assured that proactive measures will be taken by government to curb the ongoing attacks on innocent citizens,” the statement reads.
“Wishing swift recovery to those injured, Governor Mutfwang emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to pursuing peace and unity.
“He reassured the public that these goals remain top priorities, with continuous efforts until the desired results are achieved.”
