Ahead of the 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the southern senatorial district have vowed to produce a consensus candidate for the opposition party.
At a stakeholders’ meeting in Okitipupa over the weekend, the leaders asked the party’s State Executive Council (SEC) to zone its governorship ticket to the district.
In a communique issued at the end of the stakeholders’ meeting, the leaders agreed to shun all grievances and bitterness of the past to reenact its winning streak.
A copy of the communique, obtained by VAM News on Sunday, was signed on behalf of the leaders by Adeolu Akinseye, a member of the party’s executive from the south.
“We shall work with other critical stakeholders in the state to ensure that Ondo South produces the next elected Governor of Ondo State.
“Ondo South shall present ONLY one credible and acceptable candidate to contest the next year’s election.
“All grievances and bitterness of the past shall become history as the party reenacts its winning streak,” the communiqué read.
The leaders added in the communique that the state’s people had “endured the pains and hardship inflicted on them by the rudderless and inhuman All Progressives Congress (APC) government for nearly seven years.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced November 16, 2024, for the state governorship election.
Ailing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu would be rounding off his tenure by February 24, 2025, having spent eight years of two terms on the seat.
