2023 election: Police personnel banned from following Kogi VIPs to polling units

As 1,833,160 voters in Kogi State go to the polls this Saturday, the Nigeria Police Force has banned all security personnel from following very important persons (VIPs) to polling units.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, who quoted the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Kogi State on the governorship election, DIG Habu Sani, on Friday in a statement, noted that on no account should any security personnel attached to VIPs, political and public officers or any personalities across the state move or escort their principals during the period of restrictions on vehicular movement.

The statement warned that any officer who is caught violating this order will be arrested and dealt with accordingly.

“The DIG appeals to VIPs, political and public officers, to note this order so as to avoid any embarrassment that might befall them. The police and other security agencies will not allow any security breach during the period of the election,” the statement added.
