No more N20 fish – Traders declares

VAM News update

Frozen fish traders in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, may call off their one-week strike on Monday.

VAM News reports that they have been on strike in the last week over the rising cost of the products.

According to findings in Ilorin, a carton of Shawa fish, which formerly cost N18,000, now costs N35,000. A carton of the popular ‘Panla’, previously sold at N15,000, is now N35,000, while salmon, known locally as ‘Alaran’, has risen from N45,000 to N75,000 per carton.

A trader who fries fish in the Ilorin metropolis, Mama Alia, in a chat with DAILY POST on Sunday, complained bitterly about the astronomical rise in the price of the different types of fish they buy for their business.

Lamenting, she said: “We are tired of the current increase in prices; we want government to wade into the situation.”

She noted that fish formerly sold at N100 will not cost N200, and the N50 fish will now cost N100. “There will be no more N20 fish,” she stressed.
