Abduction: Relief as Troops Rescue Six Federal University Students

THE military rescued six of the 24 students abducted by gunmen Friday morning at the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State.

Voice Air Media reports that bandits in large numbers invaded three of the school’s hostels, forced their way into the rooms through windows and abducted 24 students.

The attackers were also said to have engaged in a gun battle with military personnel before fleeing with their victims.

A top military source close to the Commander of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Gusau, told Channels TV that six students had been rescued.

According to the source, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, the Brigade Commander, was leading the operation with other security agencies in the forest along the state’s Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) to rescue the remaining victims.

Several bandits were neutralized, and weapons were recovered during the operation, he said.

Zamfara governor summons emergency security meeting over abducted varsity students
Following the recent abduction of an unspecified number of female students from the Federal University, Gusau, Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has called for an emergency security council meeting.

The governor’s media aide, Suleiman Idris, announced this in a statement released in Gusau and shared with journalists on Friday.

Mr. Idris explained that the meeting was prompted by the abduction of the students from their off-campus residence in Sabo Gida Village, Bungudu Local Government Area of the state.

He further stated that the purpose of the meeting is to ensure the immediate release of the students and find a sustainable solution to the ongoing security challenges that have been a cause of concern for the government.
