Concerned: Why Tinubu should sign bill to remove police from contributory pension scheme

Concerned Nigeria Police Officers and rank and file have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently sign the bill seeking the removal of police personnel from the Police Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) passed by the National Assembly recently and sent to the presidency for assent to save them from the pains and agony they are passing through as a result of deductions from their salary monthly for the scheme.

Some officers who spoke with the Newsmen under the condition of anonymity stated that they absolutely believed that President Tinubu would sign the bill for the removal of police officers from the contributory pension scheme into law because “we know that he means well for all Nigerians with the bold decisions and actions he had taken since assuming office”.

They appealed to the president to sign the bill into law to serve as palliatives for all police officers involved in the scheme just the same way the president doled out palliatives for Nigerians recently, saying the police contributory pension scheme is gradually killing the morale and gallantry of police officers.

Speaking, one of the police officers said, “We are appealing to President Bola Tinubu to sign into law the bill to enable police personnel to enjoy the same benefits other security agencies like the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Navy and the DSS enjoy.

“How can a police officer contribute part of his/her salary into a scheme for 35 years in service and after retirement would be paid a paltry gratuity from their contributions?

“The contributory pension scheme is gradually killing the morale of police officers in Nigeria.”
