Report: Police arrest suspected kidnappers of two-year-old boy in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection to the abduction of a two-year-old boy in the Karu Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel, made the disclosure on Thursday at the command’s headquarters in Lafia while parading a total of 19 suspected criminals who were arrested for committing various crimes in the state.

He explained that the minor had been missing for two weeks before his parents approached the police to launch a manhunt on the kidnappers who were already demanding a ransom.

Nansel said, “On 13/08/2023 at about 3:30 pm, one Adamu Abdullahi ‘M’ of Orange market, Mararaba, Karu LGA, reported that his two-year-old son had been missing for two weeks and all efforts to trace his whereabouts proved abortive.

“He also reported to officers of the command that on the same date, he received a call from an unknown person demanding a ransom of two million, five hundred thousand naira (#2,500,000.00).

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives were deployed to go after the abductors. Consequently, the following suspects, namely Abubakar Saidu 38 years, Yusuf Yusuf 23 years, and Haruna Garba, 50 years, all males of Orange market, were arrested in connection to the crime.

“Upon interrogation, Abubakar Saidu (a neighbour to the complainant) confessed to having conspired with the above-mentioned suspects to kidnap the two-year-old child and handed him to one Salamatu Abubakar (his wife) who took the child to Katsina State. She was trailed and arrested, and the child was rescued and re-united with his parents.”

While warning all criminal elements to leave the state without further delay, Nansel said the Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, had ordered that the suspects should be charged to court for prosecution.
