BREAKING: Oyo state declares Monday public holiday for Isese Day

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has approved August 20 as Isese Day and gone further to declare Monday, 21 August public holiday to mark the day.

 

Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo announced the decision in a statement on Friday.

 

According to the circular, the governor urged traditional worshippers in the state to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and stability of the state in particular and the country in general.

 

The approval indicates the governor’s commitment to inclusivity and respect for all religious practices in the state, Adeyemo said.

Isese Day will also be marked in Ogun and Osun states. Traditionalists in Kwara are also determined to celebrate the day.

 

Ondo, Lagos and Ekiti are yet to recognise the day, devoted to holders of traditional faiths.
