APC group: Omisore not forced to resign over fraud

A support group of the ruling All Progressives Congress on Monday defended the resignation of former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola, saying he was not pressured into throwing in the towel.

While stating that the Osun politician resigned voluntarily, the Conference of APC Support Group Coordinators expressed concern about the manner his critics went to town with skewed narratives to mislead the public.

The reaction comes barely two weeks after the Acting National Chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, officially announced the exit of Omisore and his predecessor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, from the party leadership.

Aggrieved members of the National Working Committee had disclosed that the manner in which the two men handled the audit of the party’s account, their refusal to render the party’s account for one year, their lack of transparency, violation of the party constitution, and running a one-man show without the contribution of the National Working Committee were responsible for their downfall.

Reacting in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, CASGC Spokesperson, Musa Otigba, lamented that they found the trumped-up allegations of financial impropriety, maladministration and high-handedness spewed in the media by some mischievous persons outrageous.

He said, “Sequel to this, it has become imperative for us to correct this erroneous impression, situate the issues in proper perspective and set the record straight. Not only is this allegation misleading, it is mischievous, baseless and unfounded to say the least. For the record, what led to Omisore’s resignation has nothing to do with the above; neither was he indicted nor found complicit in any ‘infractions’ allegedly committed by Adamu. It was simply a personal decision done in good faith and for the progress of the party.

“Even the party has debunked the claim when the acting national chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said the party has no case of financial impropriety against former national chairman Adamu and national secretary Omisore.

“For the naysayers and negative ad peddlers, Senator, Omisore was not pressured to resign, rather he took the noble action voluntarily based on his conviction, principle and integrity as a loyal party man to pave way for easy resolution of the crisis within the party. Senator Omisore should rather be commended for this noble act as not many people have that kind of heart to do what he did at the time he did it.

“Omisore’s hands are clean. He stands tall with his shoulders raised high. He wasn’t accused of any embezzlement, he resigned because he was loyal to the party and his boss, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. Nobody forced or pressured him to resign. He resigned as a loyal party member with his integrity intact.”
