JUST IN: Security guards arraigned for stealing, vandalism

The Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday, arraigned two security guards, Edward Yusuf and Michael Dimda, before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ajah for allegedly destroying a Sport Utility Vehicle and stealing N2m.

 

Yusuf and Dimda are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy, vandalism, and stealing preferred against them.

 

The police prosecutor, Inspector Chinedu Njoku, told the court that the defendants conspired with others who are still at large to commit the offences.

 

He said the incident took place at House 2, 34V 1, Estate Orchid Road Ikota, the Ajah area of the state sometime in July 2023.

Osuji further told the court that the defendants stole the said money after they vandalised a Land Cruiser Prado Jeep and stole parts of the vehicle, property of one Hilary Ajuebon.

 

According to the prosecutor, the defendants committed the offence between 6pm and 6am.

 

Osuji said the offence contravened Sections 412 and 287 (5) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

 

The two security guards pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

 

However, the Magistrate, Mrs Adefunke Famobiwo, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the state government and have their addresses verified.
