DOWOB 2023: Take home tips excerpt from program’s sessions [Financial Intelligence & Unleash Talent]

The 2023 DOWOB—Dive Out With Olorungbotemi Bright sessions were incredibly educative and eye opening. The yearly program, which started on July 19, 2023 will, however, be concluded today, July 20, 2023.

As one of the resourceful personnels, Mr Adeoye Dare Samuel unraveled the topic “Financial Intelligence”, Mrs Adeleke Deborah also took the topic “Unleash Talent”

While delving into the topic, Dare Adeoye stated that; “Financial intelligence is the ability to understand and effectively manage one’s financial affairs. It involves a combination of knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable individuals to make informed decisions about their financial resources, both in the present and in the future.”

He also listed some areas one need to be competent so as to be financially intelligent which includes budgeting, investment, debt management, financial planning and risk management.

Speaker Dare Adeoye went on to elaborate further on the subject of “financial intelligence” in order to provide additional context, which led him to reveal the vital components and skills that are necessary for personal finance.

According to him, “emotional intelligence, financial literacy and numeracy are the components of financial intelligence while the skills required for financial intelligence are; critical thinking, communication & collaboration, planning & organizing, and adaptability & resilience.

Adeoye concluded that; “To become financially intelligent, (I) you must increase your financial knowledge (II) track your spending (III) Start saving (IV) invest wisely (V) manage your debt (VI) create a financial plan and, (VII) practice financial discipline.

Also, Mrs Adeleke Deborah breaks down the topic “Unleashed Talent”. Explaining the term “Talent” ; “It is potential, creativity, and capability. It is a unique and natural ability. It is a naturally endowed gift, what you love. What you love doing and you are happy doing it.”

She continued with storytelling as she spoke about natural ability making mention of a lady she knew who’s a hair stylist and did not learn it from anyone.

Another storyline is about a young boy in Nigeria who failed JAMB about 2 times but eventually decided to use his talent of writing comics to make so much money for himself on Esty, Amazon, and the likes, which granted him an opportunity to travel out of the country to further his education.

“Talents are in varieties, which can be acting, dancing, singing, woodwork, running,  reading, leadership, writing, humor, and so on.Talent is different from skill because it is a gift given by God while skill is learned and acquired through efforts, for example, computer programming. That is the reason why you see some person who studied Mechanical Engineering who is also a talented public speaker. You wonder how come?”

“What amazes me most is that the talent Mr. A possesses can be what Mr. B has to learn to gain an understanding of it. Talent has a voice and it speaks for the carrier. Your talent has the power to take you to a position of relevance and recognition. One of the purposes of your talent is to give back to your world and impact lives. Talent not used can not be recognized. Some people could not have died poor had it been they unleashed their talent.
