Ravaging flood has destroyed many houses in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, following a heavy downpour on Sunday evening.
According to report, the heavy rain that lasted for over one hour wreaked havoc in many areas of the State capital as residents were seen packing out their valuables from their houses.
Many roads, especially in Gengeri Megamu area were covered with water, making it very impossible for motorists to pass.
According to a resident, Alhaji Malami, it was terrible, adding that many people lost their properties due to the heavy rainfall.
“The State government knows that such incidents have been occurring over the years but no action has been taken to address the issue of flood in the area.
“Most of the areas are waterlogged and there are no well constructed gutters to reduce the flooding,” he said.
While blaming the State government for not taking proper measures, he also blamed the residents for building their houses on waterways, saying that flood has been wreaking havoc in the areas in the previous years.
He called on the State government to as a matter of urgency design strategies that can prevent flooding in the area.
Another victim, Mrs Okoye told the Newsmen that she lost some of her properties, lamenting that she was busy saving the lives of her children which she said was very important to her.
“My husband was at his workplace and I was doing all these struggling alone, we would have saved some of our properties,” she lamented.
One Mike, an engineer, said the government has its rules for building houses but the rules were not being followed because of sharp practices.
