Osun Governor’s Wife Emerges 2023 NET Ambassador

THE Wife of Osun State Governor, Chief ( Mrs) Titilola Adeleke, has bagged the 2023 Net Ambassador award conferred on her by the State Ministry of Health in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Health, Development Partners, Society for Family Health, and Catholic Relief Service.

In her acceptance speech at the occasion, which took place at the Executive Council Chamber, Osun State Secretariat Abere, Chief (Mrs) Titilola Adeleke expressed gratitude to the organizers for the recognition and for providing insecticide treated nets, free of charge, to all households in the State for protection against mosquito bites.

According to her, ”Malaria is the most common public health problem in Nigeria affecting almost all Nigerians, most importantly children under the age of 5 years and pregnant women.

“As the Net Ambassador for Osun State, I promise to use different channels and resources to disseminate messages on the use of the insecticide mosquito nets to ensure that families protect themselves from mosquito bites by sleeping inside their nets every night.

“ I will also mobilize all the Net Advocates of the Local Government Areas who will in turn mobilize the people at the grass roots so that the percentage of net utilization in Osun State will increase appreciably.

“ By the grace of God, I will work with other stakeholders to ensure that children no longer die of malaria, no pregnant woman has miscarriage or give birth to low-birth-weight child due to malaria and generally reduce the burden of malaria in Osun State.

“I also urge you the people of Osun State to make yourselves available at home, provide correct information to the mobilizers and distributors, be registered and given nets. The mobilization and distribution period is from 6th – 17th July, 2023”, she concluded

In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Osun State Ministry of Health, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle explained that the ceremony is a step towards starting the mass distribution of the long lasting insecticide treated nets in Osun State

He stressed further that with Her Excellency championing the distribution of the net, as a mother of the State, it will encourage every household to receive the net and put them to proper use.

In her goodwill message , Her Royal Majesty, Olori Temitope Ogunwusi advised all asundry to embrace the use of the treated net so as to make the State and Nigeria as a whole free from the deadly disease.

Olori Temitope however pledged her readiness to work closely with the wife of the Osun State Governor to spread the gospel of malaria eradication and the usage of INT to stem it’s tide.

Also speaking, the Manager, Society for Family Health, Mr John Ocholi disclosed that 3. 6 million nets will be distributed in Osun, while admonishing all households in the State to ensure the usage of the net for their protection against malaria.
