Electricity Hike: Don’t Push Nigerians To Slavery – Apostle Asiwaju Tells FG

THE founder of EL-OLAM International Christian Centre, Apostle Olugbenga Asiwaju says plans by the federal government of Nigeria to increase electricity tariff by 40 percent from July 1, 2023, is “absolutely wrong”

On Monday, the federal government hinted at removing the N50 billion monthly electricity subsidy in the sector owing to the revenue shortfall.

The development is coming a few weeks after the removal of petrol subsidy which now has petrol retail prices skyrocketing.

Reacting to this, in a statement on Tuesday, Apostle Gbenga Asiwaju said it’s absolutely wrong at this period.

“It’s ill-timed! Nigerians are still groaning under the effects of fuel subsidy removal. Everyone is trying to maneuver in order to survive the high cost of living due to high cost of fuel and then the government is coming up with electricity tariff hike.. its absolutely wrong”

Apostle Asiwaju further said the Government should not make the masses to be living as people in slavery in their own Country like the Israelites in Egypt.

While urging the federal government through Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Apostle Asiwaju advised the FG to suspend the hike action.
